The North Medford Mavericks continued to dominate in American Legion A Area 4 action on Thursday.

The Mavericks defeated Central Point Combined Transport in both ends of a doubleheader, 8-7 and 10-2, at North Medford High to register their 22nd win in 24 contests in Area 4 play.

"We've been playing a lot of games in a short period of time," Mavericks coach Brett Wolfe said. "Both our pitchers had to go on just three days rest. We had to get some innings out of them."

In the opener, the Mavericks (35-5) scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mason Yeigh opened with a walk and Tyler Spears got on with a bunt single. After Hayden Wolfe sacrificed the runners to second and third and Blake Mitchell was walked intentionally, Corey Nelson delivered a sacrifice fly to deep right field to end the game.

In the top of the inning, Hayden Wolfe (5-1) had the go-ahead runner on base with no outs but worked out of the pitcher's jam.

Steven Cole had two hits and two RBIs for North Medford.

In Game 2, Nelson pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts for the Mavericks, while Mitchell went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs to pace North's nine-hit attack.

Spears added two hits and two RBIs, while Chris Bradshaw also contributed a pair of hits and scored twice.

"Our pitch selection wasn't real good early in Game 1," said coach Wolfe. "We made some adjustments and we became more selective and that carried over into the second game."

For Central Point, Johnny Wood had an outstanding twin bill at the plate. Wood went 4-for-4 with a double and triple in the opener, then came back with two more hits in the nightcap.
