CENTRAL POINT — A shop housing a motor home and a fifth-wheel trailer was destroyed in a Tuesday afternoon blaze on Blackwell Road near Central Point.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said Jackson County Fire District 3 Captain Mark Minor.

The blaze sparked at around 6 p.m., sending up a thick column of smoke that was visible from much of Medford.

"It was pretty hot when we got there," Minor said. "One of our firefighters was sent to the hospital for heat exhaustion."

The firefighter was released Tuesday night after a check-up.

A home on the property, which sits in the 6500 block of Blackwell Road, was not damaged.

The flames spread to near-by bushes. Oregon Department of Forestry crews worked throughout the afternoon to make sure the blaze did not spread into a forested area.

Crews were still mopping up the scene after 10 p.m.
