A Little League softball coach is in jail on rape and sexual abuse charges stemming from his alleged sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl on his team.

Eric Robert Sell, 31, of the 1100 block of Sierra Vista Way, Central Point, is lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of third-degree rape and three counts of third-degree sexual abuse. Medford police arrested him Tuesday.

Police believe Sell had sexual contact with the girl he met while coaching the Gold Valley National Little League team in Gold Hill.
The girl told investigators that she and Sell had sexual contact several times in June and July, Medford police Sgt. Phil Eastman said. Third-degree rape and sexual abuse charges deal with sexual contact with a person who is too young to consent.

Eastman said the alleged sexual contact came to police’s attention last week as officers investigated a complaint involving Sell and the girl’s mother.
