The Retrofits, a Portland band, performs at 7 p.m. today at Bear Creek Park amphitheater, Siskiyou Boulvard and Highland Avenue, Medford, as part of the summer’s Concerts in the Park series.

The band was created in 2002 by high school friends and trackmates Jake Oken-Berg, who ran for mayor of Portland when he was 19, and George McCleary, one of the nation’s top high school runners back in the day, with Jason Barlow and Brud Giles joining later. The band mixes the instrumentation of a jazz ensemble with the catchy melodies and arrangements of a mainstream rock band.

It has opened for Everclear and Pink Martini and released its first album this year. Bring a chair or a blanket, and catch the group The Oregonian called “one of the West’s premier purveyors of expressive and engaging piano pop.”

One day they might be huge, get there today so you can say you saw them for free in Medford.
