SAMS VALLEY State forestry crews around 4:30 p.m. today finally gained the upper hand on a 10-acre fire in grass and brush along the 21000 block of Antioch Road.

The Oregon Department of Forestry unleashed a heavy attack on the 3 p.m. fire, using two air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters along with ground crews, state forestry officials said.

By 4:30 p.m., however, firefighters had gained enough headway to release one of those tankers from duty, a department spokesperson said.

By 4:45 p.m. there were no predictions on when the fire would be under control, the spokesperson said.
No information on the suspected cause is yet available.
