August 14, 2007
David Collins of 5291 Sweet Lane, Sams Valley, Ore., died August 14, 2007, at the Rogue Valley Medical Center. He died of complications following a stroke he had five days previous. He suffered no pain and was alert until the end. Family members were by his side.
David was born in Winfield, Kans. on May 12, 1934. He was the youngest of six children (three sisters and two brothers) born to Emmanuel Marshall Collins and Minnie Hilma Gibbs Collins. The Collins and Gibbs families moved west to settle in the Medford area in 1936, when Dave was two years old. The Collins family and the JD & Edith (Gibbs) Connors Family settled in Medford; the Gus & Merle (Gibbs) Carlson Family settled in Eagle Point. The Connors and Carlson families remained in the Rogue Valley, but the Collins family moved to southern California when Dave was eight. In 1971, David returned to Oregon with his wife and two children to finally settle in Sams Valley.
David led a happy, productive life. He was an Airplane Mechanic for the US Airforce, a Railroad Switchman for Kaiser Steel Mills, an Electrician for the City of Medford, and a Bus Driver for RVTD. He loved camping, boating, fishing, racecars and motorcycles. He had a playful sense of humor. We will miss David, but we celebrate his life and thank the Lord for the time we've had with him. He and his family are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
David Collins is survived by his wife, Anna Louise Collins; his daughter, Debora Ann Collins; his son, Micheal David Collins; daughter-in-law, Patti Collins; and his grandchildren, Adam, Alyssa, Dene' and Kaleb.
A memorial service and burial is to be held Thursday, August 23, 2007, at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Please contact the family for details.
