An 8-year-old Medford boy hit by a car Thursday has been upgraded to serious condition and removed from a respirator at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.
Wyatt Chase Matthews, of the 3100 block of Forest Hills Drive, was struck by a car on Thursday afternoon while crossing Crater Lake Avenue with his two sisters, ages 11 and 15.
He was transported by ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center before being flown to Doernbecher where he currently is being treated. Police initially reported he was in “extremely critical” condition Thursday. Police reported that he is suffering from a number of injuries including a fractured skull.
The vehicle was driven by a 19-year-old Talent woman. No citations have been issued and the investigation continues.
