John and Doris Rice of Medford celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Aug. 8 with a family dinner party at Gogi's Restaurant in Jacksonville. Hosts of the event were their daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Duane Lowenberg of Medford.

John and Doris plan to continue the celebration with a family trip to the Oregon Coast in October.

John Rice married Doris Beery on Aug. 8, 1937, in the gardens of Doris' parents' home in Paradise, Calif.

John and Doris Rice met in 1936. They honeymooned in San Francisco and made their home in Chico, Calif., from 1937 until 2003. John owned Chico Dental Lab for 44 years along with his father and brothers.

Doris worked as a cosmetologist. She is also a watercolor artist.

They moved to Medford in 2003 to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. They have spent many years fishing in the Northwest, and traveling throughout America, as well as Europe, New Zealand, Fiji and Mexico.

John and Doris have two children, a son, Craig (Nancy) Rice of Federal Way. Wash., and a daughter. Carol (Duane) Lowenberg of Medford. They also have five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

They enjoy spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and have set a wonderful example for their family of a loving marriage and old-fashioned honesty.
