Gerald and Marie Boutwell of Medford celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 24.

Gerald Boutwell married Marie Palmer on Aug. 24, 1947, in Newark, N.J.

Gerald was born in Fortuna, Calif., and Marie was born in Newark, N.J.

Gerald was discharged from the Navy in 1945, moved to Newark and met Marie at the Bartenders Ball. Gerald worked at the Pabst Brewing Co. and Marie worked for Prudential Insurance Co.

They moved to San Bernardino, Calif., in 1949. Marie worked at the Security Bank and Gerald worked for General Telephone Co. With a promotion at the telephone company, they moved to Redondo Beach, Calif. Thereafter, Marie became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.

Gerald retired from General Telephone Co. in 1981. In 1982, he accepted employment with the City of Torrance as a systems analyst. Gerald was appointed as information systems director in September 1983 and held this position until he retired in December 1988.

The Boutwells moved to a new home in Medford in January 1990.

They enjoy traveling and participating in the bowling community.

They have one child, Steven Boutwell, of Phoenix, Ariz., and two grandchildren.
