Ruth, 86, died at home in the care of Hospice, and her family, her friend/nurse Lois Beach. Ruth has been a resident of Medford since the early 1930s living in the same home 67 years. She was born in Rocky Ford, Colo., to Holland and Chloe Barnhart. For several years she worked for Barnhart Construction Co. and Medford Realty, both family businesses. Ruth's proudest moments were spent as an accomplished homemaker, Girl Scout leader and home chef entertaining family and friends. Ruth was affectionately called the warden in our family; she was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church and a very active volunteer for many years. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Ice. She is survived by her son, George E. Ice, Fairbanks, Alaska, daughter, Dorothy Ferrell, West Linn, Ore., brother, Earl Barnhart, Eagle Point, Ore., sister, Opal Kickbusch, Portland, Ore., grandson, Gary Potts, Beaverton, Ore., granddaughters, Brenda Ferrell and Amy Ferrell; three great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her dear friend Marcia Dolenshek, of 70 years.
Ruth was the matriarch of her neighborhood and fond of the many caring people that watched over her.
Following the memorial service, a picnic celebration of Ruth's life will be held at Casey Park on the Rogue River, Hwy 62, mile post 29, about ten miles east of Shady Cove, Ore. Wear casual clothes and bring your favorite Ruth story.
