Robert W. McElroy



Robert William McElroy, 86, died, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, August 28, 2007.



Robert McElroy was born on March 28th, 1921 in the town of Mountain Home, Idaho, to the late Hazel McElroy and Robert McElroy. He served during WWII as a pilot in the Army Air Corp and was awarded the Air Medal of Honor, two Purple Hearts and Distinguished Unit Badge Award. Mr. McElroy was a life long advocate of peace and supporter of humanitarian causes.



Robert married Maree C. McElroy in 1952 and resided with his family for many years in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was a Corporate Officer in the Lawson Supply Co. He was an Ashland resident for the past 14 years. Mr. McElroy was actively involved in the Ashland Elementary Schools Reading Program.



Rober McElroy is survived by his daughter and her husband, Marcia and H.L. Benbough; his son, Robert L. McElroy Jr., and his partner, Christopher Medellin; his daughter and her husband, Maria McElroy and Tetsu Yagi; two grandchildren, Morgan and Taylor Benbough and his sister, Roberta Howard. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Nora Erhardt, Hazel Cutler, Patricia Heatly and Marion McElroy.



Funeral services for Robert William McElroy will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 North 2nd Street, Ashland, Ore. The Rev. Ann Barlett will officiate. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery, 440 Normal Avenue, Ashland, Ore.
