Joy Winnifred Bigham

Joy Winnifred (Fredericks) Bigham, age 99, a long-time resident of Medford, went on to be with her Lord on August 28, 2007. Joy was born April 12, 1908, in Dufur (near the Dalles), Ore., to Ina and William Fredericks. Her three brothers, Donald, Loren, and Luke, all preceded her in death.

Joy graduated from Cottage Grove High School (1925), and attended Ashland Normal School, before teaching school one year (1927-28) in Sams Valley. She married Leslie James Bigham, in Medford, on February 23, 1929. They had three sons: John Bigham, of Eugene; Larry Bigham, of San Antonio, Tex.; and David Bigham, of Central Point. Leslie and Joy raised their family in Central Point. Subsequently, Joy completed a Bachelor's Degree in Education at Southern Oregon College (1957), and taught school for many years in Calif. and Ore. She taught school in Central Point, Ore., and Parkfield, Monterey, Sonoma, Bellevue, and Pacific Heights, all in Calif. Joy was a life-long member of the Christian Church. She was a daily Bible reader who shared the love of Jesus with many around her, including her husband and her three boys. In her later years, Joy received special love and care from three wonderful nieces; Lucille Smith, of Medford, Elaine Chinnici, of Central Point, and Glenna Humphrey, of Central Point.

Final arrangements will be handled by Perl Funeral Home, and Siskiyou Memorial Park. The family will hold a private memorial service.
