MEDFORD — One person was cited for careless driving following a head-on crash in North Medford that left two people hospitalized, police said.

Jeremy Fleming, 35, was driving his Chevrolet Blazer south on Bullock Road near Biddle Road when his car crossed the center line and hit a green mini van head-on, Medford police said in a news release.

The cars slammed into each other just past a curve in Bullock Road. The collision caved in the front ends of both cars, leaving the road strewn with debris.

Bullock Road was shut down while Medford Fire Department crews worked to extricate both drivers.

Fleming was cited for careless driving, police said.

"The fortunate part of this was that we had an officer near by who actually heard the crash and was able to respond quickly," Medford police Sgt. Mark Boone said.

The name of the woman driving the green mini van was not available late Wednesday.

Boone said the fresh rain that had fallen earlier in the day may have contributed to the accident.

"The rain brings out the oil in the road, making driving conditions slippery," Boone said. "I could feel it as I was driving around today."

Boone wanted to remind drivers to slow down during the initial heavy rains early in the fall.
