That contentious issue of how much a parking ticket should cost in Medford comes before the City Council during a public hearing tonight.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 411 W. Eighth St. It's open to the public.

The council is due to hear opinions on proposed 50 percent increases in the cost of a parking ticket. The fee would go from $10 to $15.

But after the city's redevelopment agency floated the plan this summer, it was stalled by outcry from area business owners, who say the increase is too big.

The council also meets at noon in council chambers. During that meeting, it's scheduled to hear an update on the Medford Wal-Mart project, in the works for about five years. The state Land Use Board of Appeals recently bumped the issue back to the council to be heard again.
