The first in a series of five community forums on the county funding crisis is set today in Ashland.

It begins at noon at the Ashland Elks Lodge, 255 E. Main St. Former Jefferson Public Radio host Jeff Golden will moderate the meeting.

Other forums are set in communities from Medford to Eagle Point in coming weeks.

The meetings were organized by civic organizations including the League of Women Voters and American Association of University Women after a Task Force on Jackson County Services met earlier in the year to discuss county funding problems.

Organizers have said they hope the forums will help "build clarity and trust."

The 13-member task force was formed to develop long-range solutions to county funding woes caused in part by cuts to federal timber subsidies.
