A community forum on the future of Jackson and Roosevelt elementary schools in Medford takes place this afternoon in a Medford park.

The event begins at 2 p.m. at Alba Park, 301 W. Main St.

Parents from the schools have scheduled the event to discuss four options a Medford schools task force has pitched for trimming escalating costs in the district's construction program.

Three of the four options would close the schools permanently; the fourth would reopen them while scrapping plans to reconstruct South Medford High School.

A final recommendation from the task force is set Oct. 2.
