BEAVERTON — North Medford proved opportunistic against second-ranked Westview Friday night.

The unranked Black Tornado never trailed until the final seven seconds when Patrick Acosta booted an 18-yard field goal to lift the Wildcats to a 27-24 nonconference football victory.

A 37-yard punt return to the North 18 set up the final kick eight plays later.

The Black Tornado took the opening kickoff and drove from its 33 to inside the Wildcat 20, then had to settle for Alex Russell's 36-yard field goal.

Andrew Jones finished off a five-play, 44-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown run to put the Black Tornado up 10-0 with 8:52 left in the second quarter.

Westview (4-0) turned a 67-yard kickoff return into a 34-yard field goal by Acosta. Then Wildcat quarterback Josh Hill capped a 10-play, 82-yard drive with a 6-yard TD run on a broken play just 30 seconds before halftime. A key play on the drive was a 44-yard pass completion on third down. The extra-point kick went wide and North led 10-9 at halftime.

Senior running back Quinton Walker, a transfer from Phoenix, accounted for North's next two TDs. Walker scooped up a fumbled punt and dashed 47 yards for a touchdown to put North ahead 17-9 with 7:11 remaining in the third quarter.

Westview tied the score 17-all on David Aguilar's 16-yard run and 2-point conversion run.

North Medford (1-2) answered right back on Walker's 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Then Westview put together a time-consuming eight-play, 75-yard scoring drive to pull even at 24-all with 10 minutes left in the game.

The winning field goal came on a fourth down play inside the North 1-yard line.

The Black Tornado held Westview to just 25 yards rushing in the opening half, but the Wildcats got their ground game going after intermission.

North Medford, which accounted for most of its yards on its first two drives, finished with 122 yards in offense. The Black Tornado did have 193 return yards.

Westview finished with 277 total yards.
