Thirza Elizabeth Donegan Stevens



Thirza Elizabeth Donegan Stevens was born June 12, 1912 in Syracuse, New York. She attended grammar school in Buffalo, New York and graduated in 1931 from high school. From 1943 to 1946, she served in the Women's Army Corp in the Medical Division. She obtained a BS and a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of California at Berkley. She was employed at the California State Department of Public Health virus laboratory and later worked at the Naval Biomedical Research Lab under contract to the University of California. She retired from UC Berkley in 1972, researching respiratory viruses after more than forty years in clinical and hospital laboratory work.



On March 23, 1957 Thirza married Harold Fayette Stevens. They enjoyed 32 years together before Harold passed away August 1, 1989. They lived on Coffee Creek for 20 years. She was a member of the RARE-2 citizens committee appointed by the district attorney of Trinity County in 1978.



She is survived by a step-daughter, Llewellyn Kirby, four grand-children and six great-grandchildren.



Thirza passed away September 22, 2007. A graveside service will be held at Trinity Center Cemetery, Weaverville, Calif. on Monday, October 1, 2007 at 1:00 p.m.
