Marilyn Gail Hartley

Monday, September 24, 2007, we unexpectedly lost our wonderful Mother, Marilyn Gail Hartley. She was born February 5, 1936, in Medford, Ore., to Mary W. (Jack), and James C. McDowell.

She lived almost her whole life in our beautiful Rogue Valley, mainly in Central Point and Ashland. During her school years, Marilyn was known to her school friends as "Mickey." She went to school in Central Point, where she met and married our father, Lester L. Hartley. Together, they had five children; Sheri, Debra, Donna, Mary, and James.

She worked at Callahan's Lodge in the 1960s. For over 30 years, she worked at Harry and David doing numerous jobs, making many friends over the years. She worked for about twenty-five years tending bar at Tolo Tavern part-time, and playing on the suffleboard team. She loved volunteering every October at The Medford Jazz Jubilee. She was always downstairs at the Red Lion with a big smile for everyone.

She was preceded in death by our sister, Donna Hartley; her father, Jim McDowell; our father, Les Hartley; and her beloved companion Bud, her German shorthair dog. She is survived by her mother, Mary McDowell, of Visalia, Calif.; her sisters, Linda (Al) Kendrick, of Visalia, Calif., and Terry (David Lazarrius) McDowell, of Davis, Calif.; her children, Sheri (Tom) Henney, Debra (Norman) Henney, Mary (Cleon) Henney, and James Hartley, all of Central Point; her nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her constant companions, Shadow, Kat and Chase. We will all miss her every day of our lives.

In lieu of flowers, help with her final expenses would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Conger Morris, Central Point and internment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at her and her son's home in Central Point. For directions, friends may call Sheri at 541-826-3857.
