EUGENE — Oregon got hit with bad news this week when coach Mike Bellotti revealed that receiver Brian Paysinger was out for the season with a knee injury.

Paysinger hurt his right knee in practice on Thursday before the Stanford game. He was scheduled for surgery this week. He is not likely to be able to return for a bowl game, Bellotti said.

Paysinger had nine catches this season for a team-high 165 yards.

"It was very difficult to lose Brian," Bellotti said. "He was our best receiver,"

The Ducks were encouraged by the play of Cameron Colvin in Oregon's 55-31 victory over the Cardinal. Colvin had eight catches for 136 yards and a touchdown.

His TD catch was his first in nearly two years. Running a post pattern, he was wide open as Dixon faked a handoff out of the shotgun and hit him in stride for a 71-yard scoring strike 15 seconds into the game.

Colvin was a highly touted receiver out of De La Salle high school in Northern California, but he hadn't lived up to his potential at Oregon.

Bellotti was pleased with what he saw from Colvin against Stanford.

"We thought we would get that (from him). I hope for him it's just the first of many," the coach said.

NEVER A DULL MOMENT: The last couple of visits to Autzen Stadium have been crazy, to say the least, for the Golden Bears.

In 2005, a driving rain and a strong wind pelted players in an overtime game that the Ducks won, 27-20. The Golden Bears had a chance to win at the end, but Tom Schneider's rushed 53-yard field goal attempt missed. It was unclear if the weather impeded it.

In 2003, the game was delayed 23 minutes with 14:40 left when the lights on the south side of Autzen went out because of a control problem in the stadium's computerized lighting system.

Kellen Clemens then led the Ducks' game-winning drives for touchdowns on a 31-yard touchdown pass to Tim Day with 4:19 remaining and on tailback Terence Whitehead's 1-yard option run with 47 seconds left.

Oregon went on to win 21-17.

Cal coach Jeff Tedford said the outage was "freaky," but he added that temperatures were expected to be near the 70s this Saturday, under sunny skies.

"This time it should be nice," Tedford said. "But it still doesn't make it any easier to play there."

Tedford, Oregon's former offensive coordinator, has never won at Autzen Stadium as Cal's coach.

GAMEDAY VISITS AUTZEN: ESPN's College GameDay program is making the trip to Eugene.

The showdown between California and Oregon is arguably the biggest game in the nation on Saturday.

The college football pre-game show, which features hosts Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit, and will air live from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. PDT. The game kicks off at 12:30 p.m. local time.

The league's coaches said that it was good to have the spotlight on the Pac-10.

"I think that that's pretty neat," said Oregon State coach Mike Riley said. "I think it's a sign of the times in our conference."

Cal hasn't been featured on GameDay since a visit to USC in 2004.
