You can check out the Bite this weekend at the Jackson County fairgrounds. No, itís not the annual Portland festival of the same name: This is a version tailored to the Rogue Valley.

The first annual event, in conjunction with the countyís annual Harvest Fair, starts this afternoon at the fairgrounds, 1 Peninger Road, Central Point. It runs from 5 to 10 tonight, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and from

Food from Rogue Valley restaurants and wines from the regionís vineyards will be featured, along with tasting events and contests. The event is a fundraiser for Boys and Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley.

The Harvest Fair will feature its annual Grape Stomp Championship and Chili Cook-off with contests to be held at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Other Harvest Fair highlights include arts and crafts booths, livestock shows, a classic car show and old-fashioned games such as sack races, tug-o-war contests, a pie eating contest and a watermelon throw.

In addition, the Robert Cray Band performs at the adjacent Lithia Motors Amphitheater Saturday evening.

Admission to the Bite of the Rogue Valley and the Harvest Fair costs $6. Children 11 and younger get in free. Tickets to the Robert Cray concert are $36, $40 the day of the show.
