Gene Joly has been promoted to executive vice president of merchandising at Musician's Friend.

Joly has been with the Guitar Center family since October 2002 and transferred to the Musician's Friend corporate office in Medford in September 2005.

Craig Johnson, president and chief operating officer of Musician's Friend, cited Joly's role in the development of company strategy, initiatives and direction as well as integration of the woodwind and brasswind subsidiary group.

Joly began his career in the musical instrument and audio industry in 1975 at E.U. Wurlitzer Music & Sound in Boston. For two years, he worked at Thoroughbred Music in Clearwater, Fla., and between 1998 and 2002 he was employed with TASCAM/TEAC in Montebello, Calif.

In 2002, he joined Guitar Center as the vice president of merchandising for technology products in Westlake Village, Calif. Since September 2005, Joly has been senior vice president of merchandising for Musician's Friend, with overall responsibility for merchandising strategy, assortment, pricing and supplier relations.
