The National Weather Service in Medford hosts an open house for the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

A meteorologist will explain the significance of the weather balloon program and a weather balloon will be launched around 11 a.m.

Activities for children including a "tornado chamber" and hands-on demonstrations of equipment and NOAA weather radio recordings also are planned.

Free coloring books and cloud charts will be available for kids. Meteorologists will explain how forecasts and warnings are made.

The weather service office is at 4003 Cirrus Drive, off Biddle Road, between Table Rock Road and Airport Road.
