Library fans in Medford and Ashland will be doing the happy dance this morning as the buildings reopen after a six-month closure.

Both libraries will open at 10 a.m.; Medford's branch closes at 5 p.m., and Ashland's follows at 6 p.m.

Events mark both reopenings. In Medford, the St. Mary's School choir performs at the front door from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Once the library is open, children's crafts and other activities will be offered all day in the children's department. Refreshments will be served in the library's large community room.

In Ashland, Oregon Poet Laureate Lawson Inada will welcome visitors back to the library with a short speech. A group of youngsters led by Ashland police Sgt. Malcus Williams will file into the children's library. Refreshments will be served in the library all day.

Other county library branches reopen next week.
