Willard A. (Bill) Hughitt



Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Redmond Cemetery for Willard A. (Bill) Hughitt who passed away November 18, 2007, in Medford, Ore., at the age of 92.



Bill was born in Raymond, Wash., to Hallie and Ivy Hughitt, and was one of five children. In 1927, the family moved to Bend, Ore. While in high school he worked part time in the Bend Hardware store and after graduating he worked his way up until accepting a position to manage their Redmond store. It was there that he met his future wife, Dorthea, whom he married in 1943. When the hardware store sold, he went to work for the Post Office in Redmond, Ore., where he worked until his retirement in 1976, serving as postmaster for twenty-one years before retiring.



Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was an active member of the Juniper Golf Club for some fifty years before moving to Medford in 2003 to be closer to his family.



Bill is survived by his wife, Dorthea; and son, Bill and daughter-in-law, Kathy Hughitt, all of Medford, son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Helene Hughitt of Eugene; an older brother, Herb Hughitt in Newport; grandchildren, Jason Hughitt of Grants Pass, Toby Koch of Prineville, Jill Reed and her husband, Jason of Lincoln, Calif., Danielle Hughitt of New York, NY, Jessica Hughitt of Barcelona, Spain; and great-granddaughters, Kayla and Isabella Hughitt of Grants Pass. He was preceeded in death by sisters, Lela and Dorothy; and by a brother, Wesley.
