A person or persons broke into the Medicine Shoppe pharmacy on East Main Street and stole an unknown amount of narcotics Thursday night, according to police reports.

The break-in occurred just before 5 p.m., said Medford police Sgt. Mark Boone. Police found no witnesses to the crime, he said, adding that Medford streets were quiet because of the holiday.

Medford police responded to the call after a security company reported the alarm. Boone said there was an eight- to 10-minute delay before police were notified.

"The suspect had made entry, taken some narcotics and fled prior to our arrival," he said. "This guy knew what he was doing. It was a very intricate burglary."

The Medford fire department also responded, and the ladder truck was used to gain access to the roof. Police, including the K-9 unit, searched the area. Boone said the amount of narcotics stolen is still unknown and the case is under investigation. He said he did not want to divulge further details about the burglary at this time.
