David C. Kitchell



A memorial service for David Charles Kitchell will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2007, at the Ashland High School Football Stadium. You are invited to dress casually. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, November 26, 2007, at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland. Interment will be at Scenic Hills Memorial Park.



Mr. Kitchell, 51, died Sunday, November 18, 2007, at home. He was born December 15, 1955 in DeLand, Fla., the son of Shirley and Walter Kitchell.



He graduated from Hammond High School in Hammond, Ind., in 1974, where he played soccer and tennis. He received a tennis scholarship and played football at the University of Indianapolis (formerly Indiana Central University) where he graduated in 1979. While attending Indiana Central he received the Kelso M. Reid Mental Attitude Award, which was chosen by the school's varsity athletes and coaches.



From 1979 to 1983, Dave taught middle school science and kindergarten in the Hamilton Southeastern School District in Noblesville, Ind. He also coached football, tennis and track. While at Hamilton Southeastern Middle School, he met the former Patricia Marie Liston and they were married on July 11, 1981 in Muncie, Ind.



In 1983, Mr. and Mrs. Kitchell moved to the Rogue Valley where Dave taught in White City. In 1984 he began teaching in the Ashland School District where he taught 8th grade science, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades. He was currently teaching the 5th grade at Bellview School. In addition to teaching, Dave loved sports and coached football, basketball, tennis and Bellview's track team. During his career in Ashland High School sports he helped lead the school to three Oregon State Championship football.



He was a member of the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association who awarded him the 2002-2003 Assistant Coach of the Year. He was also awarded the 2003 AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year.



Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his daughter, MacKenzie of Ashland; his son, Brian of Ashland; parents, Walter and Shirley Kitchell of Hammond, Ind.; brothers, Dan (Liz) Kitchell of Hammond, Ind., Bill (LeeAnn) Kitchell of Mosinee, Wis. and Tom (Stacy) Kitchell of Tampa, Fla. He was also very close to Tricia's five siblings and their families. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews. His family was always his highest priority.
