Be prepared to brave a little weather today to attend a free weather-spotting class offered by the National Weather Service.

It's set from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Prospect Ranger Station, 47201 Highway 62. The state Department of Transportation was reporting spots of ice along that stretch of the highway on Thursday.

The class is open to the public, and the weather service will be recruiting new weather spotters during the event.

It will include an explanation by a weather service employee of winter storms and winter weather terms used by forecasters. Participants will learn how to use the precipitation gauge that's given to new spotters, as well as what type of weather to report.
