A California man whose mother reported him missing was found safe at a Talent motel Thursday.

Thomas Patrick Moore's elderly mother called the Jackson County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday after not hearing from her son, 57, for several days. She had last talked to him Saturday after he took his Volkswagen to Valley View Auto Repair on Valley View Road in Ashland for repairs, Jackson County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Colin Fagan.

After that, his cell phone had been inactive, and investigators and his mother worried that trouble could have befallen him. Fagan said the sheriff's department moves aggressively on reports of missing people.

Moore, who grew up in the Medford area, was traveling from Portland to California after a business trip when his car broke down over the weekend, Fagan said.

Detectives tracked transactions on Moore's debit card to find him at a motel in Talent, Fagan said. Moore didn't realize he had been reported missing and was the subject of a search.

Investigators helped put him back in touch with his mother and retrieve his car from the shop.
