id-December gives driftboat anglers a chance to double-dip when fishing coastal rivers like the Chetco, Sixes and Elk. Fishing a mid-size plug in migration lanes can give you a chance to catch late-run fall chinook as well as winter steelhead.

A Kwikfish size 13 or 14 is small enough to appeal to a steelhead yet big enough to tease a chinook. Wrap that plug with a chunk of sardine under the bill and the scent can turn that aggravator aspect of the plug into an attracter.

Focus on the inside turns of gravel bars. Migrating salmon and steelhead are like NASCAR drivers — they hug the inside turns for speed.
