Herman Charles Atchley

1930 - 2007



Herman Charles "Chuck" Atchley, 77, of Medford, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 peacefully in the home that he loved. He was born on August 20, 1930 in Chattanooga, Tenn. He lived there until joining the Navy at the tender age of 16, serving in the Korean War. Chuck then went on to become an areospace engineer, and retired from Boeing, McDonald Douglas. He also worked on history-making space efforts such as The Apollo, Mercury, and Gemini Space exploration efforts.



He relocated to Southern California in the 1950s where he met and married his first love, Carol. They were married over 20 years and had — children. He met his second love, Rosemarie in the 1970s they were happily married for over 33 years. He recently remarried and his loving wife, Brenda was at his side at his passing.



Chuck loved to create with his hands. He loved to paint and shared several of his paintings with friends and family. Many paintings hang with pride in his lovely home. He was an avid cook and loved to invite others to sample his culinary creations.



Chuck worked hundreds of hours, volunteering his time at the Domiciliary in Medford, helping veterans like him to have a fulfilling life. A picnic pavillion was dedicated to him at the Dom for his efforts. He will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.



Chuck is survived by his wife, Brenda and her son, Simon, his son, Charles; daughters, Vicki and Karen; and six grandchildren.



The funeral services will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary at 2201 N. Phoenix Road in Medford, OR on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon.
