Doris Marie Madara

Our mother Doris, passed away December 18, 2007 in Medford at the age of 86. Her — children, Sharon, Tom and Jim were at her side at the time.

She was born Doris Marie Beebe on August 31, 1921 in Buffalo N.Y. She was active in track & field in high school, running the hurdles and despite her petite stature was a member of her high school's basketball team. Mom was predeceased by her mother, father and her sister, Peg. When Mom & Peg got together, the fun and laughter rang out as those two were very close.

Mom met our father Jim Madara in 1941 while working in Rochester, N.Y., and after they were engaged Dad was deployed by the military to active duty. He returned to the U.S.A. and called Mom from the first point of entry asking her how quickly she could put a wedding together. Three days later, they were married, in August of 1945.

She raised her three kids in upstate Newark, N.Y., Phoenix, Ariz. and Medford, Ore., moving each time to follow Dad's career. Though the disruptions of the major moves to new locations were difficult at first, she rose to the challenge and created new and loving homes for the entire family. She also came to love the Arizona desert and the Pacific NorthWest beauty.

She worked for the Jackson County Health Department in Medford for several years. When her husband Jim retired from Jackson and Perkins in 1985, she and father traveled extensively to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Central America, as well as around this country in all directions.

She was the quintessential mother. She created a home where everyone was welcome and everyone thrived. A wonderful cook, she was constantly trying new recipes. She enjoyed sewing and was unmatched at any craft she would attempt. She was always there when the need arose, sharing good advice, compassion and love.

She is survived by her husband Jim; her daughter Sharon (Ted); sons, Tom (MaryAnn) and Jim (Iris); and grandson, Alec. In addition, there are many loving friends and relatives who will miss her deeply because our mom had a huge heart and a giving nature.

A memorial service will be held in the Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd, Medford, on Saturday the 22nd of December at 2:00 p.m.
