A 17-0 run in the second quarter helped turn a tightly contested game in the first quarter into a dominating, 65-22 boys basketball victory for Cascade Christian over Bonanza at The Pavilion on Thursday in the opening round of the A.G. Edwards Christmas Classic.

The Challengers (8-0) had 15 steals in the game, many coming in that second quarter run, which led to easy baskets on the other end.

"It was really the pressure we put on them that took them out of their offense," Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse said.

Bonanza's leader entering the game was Daniel Clark, and Cascade Christian focused on stopping him and forcing others to do the scoring. The Challengers were successful as Clark finished with six points against the defense of Scott Morse, who finished with seven rebounds, seven assists, four blocks and three steals to go along with a team-high 15 points.

"Scott did a good job of containing him," coach Morse said.

Morse did most of his scoring damage in the second half with 11 of his 15 points coming after halftime. Jarrod Hess added 12 points for the Challengers and Ben Joffer had nine off the bench.

"It was pretty balanced scoring," coach Morse said. "Our bench did a good job and Ben Joffer gave us a spark coming off the bench."

Josh Gibson led Bonanza with eight points. Cascade Christian faces Lakeview tonight at 7:15 while Bonanza faces North Valley at 8:15 p.m.
