An interfaith solstice celebration and labyrinth walk are planned in Ashland tonight.

The events get under way at 5 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 N. Second St. They're free.

Beginning at 5 p.m., gatherers will walk the outside labyrinth holding candles. Afterward all are invited to the Parish Hall to enjoy hot cider and fresh-baked cookies.

At 6 p.m. an informal program by leaders of various faiths will be presented: Rabbi David Zaslow of Havurah Shir Hadash will represent the Jewish tradition. Lama Yeshe Parke of Kagyu Sukha Choling will cite Buddhist practices. Steve Scholl will read poetry by Rumi, from the Sufi tradition. Rev. Anne Bartlett of Trinity Episcoopal Church will touch on Christian interpretations. Astronomer Richard Moeschl will discuss the stars' position during the winter solstice.
