Balmy will not be the word in the Rogue Valley today, when weather forecasters expect rain — and possibly some very wet snow — before an even colder storm hits Christmas Day.

The National Weather Service in Medford on Sunday was predicting a high of 37 today, with temperatures falling to 31 degrees after noon.

Forecasters expect a new storm to move into the region Tuesday, with snow levels falling to around 1,000 feet Tuesday night across southwest Oregon and northwest California and a possible accumulation of 1 to 3 inches of snow by Wednesday morning.

“Occasional snow showers could provide additional accumulations of 1 to 3 inches with snow levels remaining near 1,000 feet through the daytime Wednesday,” the weather service said in a special weather statement Sunday.
