Carl James Hoppe

Carl James Hoppe, age 59, passed away December 22, 2007, at Providence Hospital.

Carl was born November 17, 1948, in Bedford, Ohio, and moved to Los Angeles at age 4. He met his beloved wife, Sharon (Fitzsimmons), while in the Navy and they married, July 3, 1966. He served in the Navy from 1966 to 1970 and was proud to be a diesel submariner during the Vietnam War. They moved to Medford in 1972 and then to Brookings in 1977.

Carl enjoyed wood-working, cooking, mushroom picking, gardening and being with his family and friends. He was an artist and a craftsman.

Carl is survived by daughter, Tamie, son-in-law, Brett, grandson, James; and son, Todd, daughter-in-law, Britt, and grandsons, Isaac and Kyle; brothers, Rick, Mark, and Scott. Carl also left behind many who loved him and considered themselves part of an extended family.

Carl was preceded in death by his father, George, his mother, Carol, and his sister, Janice.

No one stayed a stranger to Carl, he was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He shared whatever he had with anyone in need. He was, as Sharon would say, the

"best of the best"
