Drivers headed southbound near Exit 27 in Medford may want to opt for Highway 99 rather than the interstate this afternoon. The Oregon Department of Transportation has narrowed Interstate 5 to one lane for delivery of large beams to the south interchange construction site. Officials expect both lanes to be open around 3 p.m.

Then on Friday, between 9 a.m. and noon, one southbound lane will be closed again to allow for truck access and the beams to be set.
Road construction and utility work continue throughout the project area. Watch for equipment and trucks working near and leaving the work zone.
