If you’re driving into the mountains tonight or over the weekend, take your tire chains and a blanket and some drinking water.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Medford were predicting as much as 4 to 8 inches of new snow in the mountains above 4,000 feet by 4 a.m.

Stormy weather was expected to continue through Saturday, with an additional 6 to 12 inches of snow above 4,000 feet during the day. Colder air behind Saturday’s storm could bring snow levels down as low as 1,000 to 1,500 feet by Sunday.

Forecasters said that Monday and Tuesday are likely to be sunny in the Rogue Valley, and the sunshine could last into Wednesday. But cold, wet weather could return by late next week.
