KLAMATH FALLS — When things became a little too close for comfort, Crater turned up the pressure on defense.

KLAMATH FALLS — When things became a little too close for comfort, Crater turned up the pressure on defense.

The Comets pulled away from a five-point lead at halftime and defeated Klamath Union, 49-33, Tuesday in Southern Sky Conference girls basketball.

Alana Harding had a fine all-around game in the victory, notching 11 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, three blocks and two assists.

Crater (8-5, 4-1 SSC) led 23-18 at halftime after two closely contested quarters.

"It was a tale of two halves," said Comets coach J.T. Thomas. "We were able to extend our defense in the second half and put better pressure on them than in the first half."

The Pelicans (1-12, 0-5 SSC) handled the press well in the first half, he added.

Klamath Union has a couple of dangerous outside shooters, and the Comets kept them in check.

"We did a nice job of containing the kids we were concerned about," said Thomas.

Crater outscored the hosts 16-7 in the third quarter.

Sophomore Jennifer Noon led the Comets with 18 points. Senior post Aundrea Albright played through illness and "showed good leadership," said Thomas, while scoring six points. Freshman post Brianna Britton added six points and three rebounds.

Crater had a 27-19 edge on the boards.
