Kids can get their hands on some musical instruments and hear some classical music during a free Rogue Valley Symphony event today.

The symphony "sampler" concert begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, Medford. The instrument "petting zoo" is planned in the theater lobby at 9:30 a.m.

The concert will offer parts of Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade and Dvorak's Cello Concerto.

Eighteen-year-old cellist Camden Shaw, performing with the symphony this weekend, plans to answer questions, and conductor Arthur Shaw will offer comments on what to listen for in the music.

Children must be at least 5 to attend.
