Wayne Andrew Meeds, Jr.
On Sunday, January 13, 2008, the Meeds family lost a brother, uncle, great-uncle, brother-in-law and most of all, a beloved friend.
Wayne was the first born of our blessed late mother, Martha Jane (Swarts) and father, Wayne Andrew Meeds, Sr. in Berry, Ariz., on July 22, 1923. When Wayne was approximately four years old his family moved from Arizona with him, his brother, Norman, and sister, Audrey to Forest Creek in Oregon, where he would live the rest of his life. Each of his brothers and sisters born after the move were born on Forest Creek, which over the years became a part of his heritage and that of the family. As a child he attended the Forest Creek School with his brothers and sisters, and later attended high school in Jacksonville, Ore. When Forest Creek School was later closed, Wayne purchased the school property where he brought his bride, Iola (Hoxworth) to reside. They were married more than 50 years before her passing in the summer of 2006. Although Wayne and Iola had no children, their brothers and sisters provided them with many nieces and nephews. They also had a large number of great-nieces and nephews. Wayne loved them all and they loved him. The life he built on Forest Creek was one of Wayne's greatest pleasures. He had a large ranch and it was his desire that his extensive family should enjoy it in the same way he did, many times speaking of leaving it as a continuing heritage "for the family." He lived each day surrounded by a vast array of brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and his life was interwoven with them in ways not often seen today. After facing difficult circumstances in his final year of life he has now passed from the scene, but his legacy of 84 years and that of the family's shared heritage remains behind as an echo of the rich life he lived.
Wayne was preceded in death by brothers, Norman, Charlie, and Laurence; and by sisters, Audrey Hinkle and Lindia Grisham. He also lost brothers-in-law, Derrell Hinkle, William Verschoor, Arnold Grisham; and sister-in-law, Diane (Mrs. Sherman) Meeds. He is survived by brothers, Homer and Sherman Meeds of Forest Creek; as well as sisters, Martha Verschoor and Viola Monk.
With great hope we await the time when the family will ALL be together again. A family memorial service for Wayne will be held at the Upper Applegate Grange located at 3901 Upper Applegate Road in Ruch, Ore., on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.
