Interstate 5 is open today after a closure north of Grants Pass Tuesday night because of heavy snow, but the freeway and area roads are slick and police this morning are responding to numerous reports of accidents.

Chains are required for some vehicles to cross the Siskiyou Summit into California, and chains are required on towing vehicles on northbound I-5 between mileposts 66 and 80.

Medford police also are reporting icy conditions on roads around the city.

The freeway was closed for three hours Tuesday night between mileposts 66 and 99 at Canyonville when snow accumulated quickly.

"Personally, I'm sick and tired of the snow," said ODOT District Manager John Vial. "This storm showed up and everything went white in minutes. Our crews kept plowing and tried to keep I-5 open but, ultimately, there were too many spinouts, cars sliding and minor crashes.
