An 82-year-old Central Point man and his passenger were killed Wednesday afternoon in a car crash on Highway 140 near Klamath Falls, according to Oregon State Police.

Wallace Homer Hamlet and Ronald Richard Dill, 64, of Klamath Falls, were heading east on the icy highway when their 1991 Nissian pick-up drifted broadside into the oncoming lane, OSP said.

They were struck by a 1988 Jeep Cherokee driven by Jack Daryel Hendrickson, 79, of Klamath Falls. He was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.

Hamlet, the driver, was taken to Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls, where he died soon after arrival.

Dill was pronounced dead at the scene.

OSP crash investigators estimated the Nissian was moving between 35 and 40 mph when it went out of control. All three men involved were wearing seatbelts, officials said.

Highway 140 was closed for about 30 minutes before one lane was opened for traffic. Both lanes were opened by 3:30 p.m.
