A state highway and the Mount Ashland ski area access road are closed this morning because of heavy snow.

The state has closed Highway 62 between mileposts 84 and 90 north of Fort Klamath because of snow drifting across the road.

Large drifts of snow also are blocking the Mount Ashland access road this morning. The ski area expects to open for the day at 10 a.m., provided the state Department of Transportation is able to plow the road by then.

High winds at the ski area also mean Ariel lift may not operate today, area operators say.

Also, chains are required to travel over the Siskiyou Summit this morning. The storm that brought rain overnight to the valley floor has socked the pass, which has 6 inches of new snow on the road, according to ODOT.
