A public memorial service is this afternoon for Jackson Countyís director of health and human services, who died last week.

Hank Collins will be remembered in a service at 1 p.m. at the Oregon Shakespeare Festivalís Angus Bowmer Theatre in Ashland.

Collins was hospitalized in November for treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome, a condition in which the bone marrow stops producing red and white blood cells. He received a bone marrow transplant, but then developed graft-versus-host disease, which occurs when a donorís immune cells attack the recipientís body.
