CENTRAL POINT — Several miles of Interstate 5 will be closed southbound tonight and northbound Wednesday and Thursday nights so new beams can be installed on an overpass.

The freeway will be closed between exits 30, Medford's north interchange, and 35, at Blackwell Road north of Central Point, as part of the project to replace beams on the Upton Road overpass.

Traffic will be detoured onto Highway 99 when the freeway is closed.

Detours will begin at 10 each night and end at 6 each morning.

Replacement of the Upton Road overpass is scheduled for completion by May 15. Upton Road traffic is using a detour on Peninger Road, East Pine Street and North Tenth Street.
