The two drivers, Jeremiah Paladino, 30, of Medford, and Steven G. Sayre, 41, of Klamath Falls, are both on the road to recovery.

Paladino was released from Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls on Tuesday morning. Sayre was in fair condition at Providence Medford Medical Center on Wednesday.

At about 5:20 p.m. on Valentine's Day, Paladino was driving west in a 2000 Toyota 4Runner when it hit ice near milepost 36 near Lake of the Woods and slid into the eastbound lane. It crashed nearly head-on with an eastbound Ford Explorer driven by Sayre. An ambulance took a seriously injured Sayre to Great Meadow Snow Park where a Mercy Flights helicopter could pick him up and take him to the Medford hospital. Paladino was rushed by ambulance to the Klamath Falls hospital.

Oregon State Police suspected speed was a contributing factor in the crash, but records don't show any citations yet.

The accident blocked the eastbound lane of the highway for about two hours.
