Barney Riggs, 81, of Medford, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
Barney was born May 3, 1926 in Corcoran, Calif., to Barney and Ruby Riggs. On August 3, 1946 in Reno, Nev., he married Shirley Weiss. Barney served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He spent his years of employment as a respected coach, educator and mentor.
Barney was a member of the Elks, Eagles, and Moose Lodges and the American Legion. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, riding ATV's, and anything sports related.
Barney was loved by all and had a profound affect on all the lives that he touched.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Riggs; son-in-law, Mike Cox; and sisters, Hazel Smith and Annabelle Skeeters.
Survivors include children, Teresa Snyder (Kelly), LeeAnn Cox, Steve Riggs (Karen), Scott Riggs, and Hollie Riggs (Terry); grandchildren, Chris Cox, Scott Snyder, Cory Snyder, Travis Riggs, Shawn Cox, Kirk Riggs, Lindsey Riggs, and Tyler Riggs: great-grandchildren, Cody Cox, Clayton Cox, just like his daughter, Jennifer Hess.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Elks in Medford on Friday, February 29, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the southern Oregon chapter of the Special Olympics.
