Richard Warne Odell

1925 - 2008

Richard died Friday, February 22, 2008 at the age of 82 in Medford. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Eagle Point National Cemetery (shelter near flag).

Born December 26, 1925 and raised in Taft, Calif., Richard was the youngest son of Edgar Sr. and Emma Odell. Brothers, Edgar Jr., Fredric, Eugene, and Robert, preceded him in death.

Richard was a Taft High letterman, who graduated from U.C. Berkeley, where he served in the Navy, becoming 2nd Platoon leader of the NROTC Battalion's 3rd Company during 1944 to 1946. He settled in Medford, following retirement from a 23 year career managing offices at Collier Carbon & Chemical Company.

He is survived by two sons from his marriage to Norma Bellman, earlier in life; Brian of Davis, Calif., and Eric of Medford; sister-in-law, Dorothy Odell of Hacienda Heights, Calif; and many nieces and nephews.

The classical music lover was pleased donating his collection to the Medford Library. He cultivated pleasures of camping, bird watching, fishing and do-it-yourselfer tinkering. Richard is remembered as a frugal, humble man, equally not ever forgotten for his generosity at being there in time of need. Close, especially to his sons and the Turnbull clan of Janell Talent, we had a beloved friend in Richard.
