Medford police arrested a suicidal man Thursday morning near McLoughlin Middle School on felony weapons charges, officials said.

Officers received a call at 7:30 a.m. of an armed man who was threatening suicide at a home in the 300 block of Haven Street.

Nearly an hour later they talked Demetrio Hernandez, 23, out of the home. He was charged with three counts of being a felon in possession of a weapon and parole violation on a previous drug charge. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail.

Police kept several school children out of the area near the school. Some streets near the school were blocked off during the incident.
